That is just wrong. We should get what we pay for.
Totally agree! The long term solution is for GM to be quicker with OTA updates. I suspect the dealers may also be hesitant because they are afraid of bricking a module and having to deal with the repair.
Folks wanting the update, and getting push back from the dealer, may want to make sure they have another service scheduled first. For example, schedule a tire rotation, and then show them the TSB which says to perform the updates on Ultium vehicles "when they are in for service" and ask them to perform that. Then, before you pickup, make sure you confirm that they did the work. If they didn't, insist that they do it. If they claim there is no update available, ask them for proof that they checked.
NOTE: The only way to check is for them to connect the MDI2 tool to the vehicle and check for updated calibrations.
Other than that, and I konw it sucks, but the only other choice is to find another dealer that is willing to listen. You can also ask to speak directly to the tech if the service advisor doesn't understand.
Understand that GM requires that any EV be worked on only by an EV Tech. Most dealers only have 1 EV tech and some of them share the EV tech with another dealership. For example, here in Maryland Criswell has a dealership in Gaithersburg and another one in Thurmont. They have one EV tech that floats between the two locations...or at least they did a few months ago.
If that's not enough, there is a nationwide shortage of qualified EV techs.
Its a combination of things causing the dealers to push back on the updates.
