It has cameras at the bottom outer part of the side mirror. I can activate those to see the front and back tires if I don't want to hit the curve and for birds eye view.
Go into vehicle settings. I forgot where exactly, but you have to opt-in to turn signal activated cameras. It's a simple on/off toggle that is off by default even if you have the update. Happened to me. Also, make sure you are in Drive and not Park when you try and test afterwards.

On mine the option is not there to activate it.

I've scheduled mine to get the update installed. Once again, it was a shitshow with my local dealer's service advisor.

This is the worst part about the truck, honestly. It drives me away from any future purchases with the brand or entire company.

Same story, Chevrolet of Fuquay in NC just told me “they are not allowed to update the software on the car if there is not a recall or something wrong with the vehicle.”

Absolutely blows my mind.

This is absolutely crazy. GM needs to do better. Hendrick in Durham NC is full of it too.

Chevy in Cary, NC actually updated the truck to have sidewinder, but they left me without a loaner when they had to warranty repair my truck which took 2.5 weeks, so they aren’t on my favorite list either.

I miss my Tesla service center experiences.

I was just told by Sir Walter Chevrolet in Raleigh that they would update my Silveraldo RST if I bring it in for issues still under warranty. Otherwise, I would have to pay $195 for them to just do the updates.

Ordered the device that allows me theoretically to pull down the update and create the USB to update it. Shall see how that plays out.

I did get the second OTA update today, which makes me wonder how that plays with the USB updates… shall report my experience.

You might want to be careful because I've seen discussions saying that GM is blocking clone devices from working with their SPS software (not that the Amazon device looks like a clone, but it's not a Bosch).

GM blocking clones

There is also a potential warranty issue with your truck which is why Electrified Outdoors suggested using the genuine GM/Bosch MIDI2 device and saving warranty screens as you update each module.

There are clones of the GM/Bosch device which look just like the real thing selling in the $100-$250 range. They looked tempting until I researched it a bit more.

Anyway, if someone gets one that works, let us know! I wonder if there is a place that rents out genuine GM/Bosch devices?

Oh I am 100% sure this is a clone as it's not $1000 bosch.

Because of the warranty concern I am not likely to actually push the update, but I do want to be able to look and verify that it is pending for my car to be able to put up a fight. It's hard to push back on the dealer when they say "there's no updates for your vehicle" and because there is no service bulletin from Chevy.

Thanks for the callout - did more reading, don't want my account locked with acdelco. Going to see if I can get a proper GM one.

Took my '24 Sierra First Edition in yesterday and they weren't done at the end of the day. Said they hope to be done end of day today.
For a software update? This is unbelievable to me.

My wife and I have 4 Tesla, the first two in 2018, plus one we traded in last year makes 5, and we've NEVER had to bring any of them in to a Service Center for a software update of any kind. Plus, it never takes 4.5 HOURS, or two days at a dealership, the longest one took 45-50 minutes, most of them in 30-40 minutes while sitting in our driveway. And they always notify me as soon as one is available, which averages every two months, I just push "Install Now" on my phone's screen.

What is GM smoking? And how can they claim they have OTA software update capability? This seems like false advertising...

GM needs to send their techs to Tesla for training. Makes no sense at all that we don't get what we paid for.
A Tesla Tech would probably take one look at the software environment inside a GM and say, "F*ck that Sh!t! I can't work with that, someone needs to be fired!"

In other words, it's not a problem with the training of the GM techs, it's a problem with the software engineering inside the vehicle. As a Tesla owner, I've applied every software update myself, with zero technical knowledge, just by pushing a button that says "Install Now". It always works, never had a problem.

Tell that to the Dealer... GM has Training Courses and Dealers send them to them for Training but not all dealers send techs and there is a limited number of EV certified techs... some dealers share techs.

VWP has been a massive improvement for installing updates all at once, GM's OTA environment this year has been a massive improvement for most GM EVs... I have seen very few Failed updates that actually required work...

My point is, it shouldn't require any technical knowledge to apply a software update.

If it's through OTA you don't... All you have to do is wait for it to be pushed to your vehicle or press a button to have it check for one... If one is available and just hasn't arrived yet it should ping the servers and become available shortly.

Also... Don't act as if Tesla Service Centers don't have techs that are trained for Software Diagnostic and installation issues.

Well they all need to be trained to give us what we pay for in that case.
