Just got notice of an OTA update. I'm on the road so hesitant to install it. It says the purpose is to make software better and it must be installed to get further OTA updates.
That's strange. It failed twice with me with a good cellular signal and was successful the first time when connected to to my home wifi.As I said you can Download it, however some of us noticed that it seems while installing a good Cellular connection is needed so it can phone home to GM during the process.
Also one of the OTA updates recently failed to install unless wifi was turned off.
What's new in your update?I've had my Silverado EV for about 11 months and I just received and successfully installed an OTA update (build is "burmese_orange-user 12 W41E-174.5.1-M170-SQBR5-189.3 189 release-keys"). Just posting here because I have seen questions / confusion about whether they are happening or not.
FINALLY got my first OTA update with this latest onei've tried to update mine every day for almost a month with full 5G bars, wide open area and still have yet to receive an OTA. I've tried many different locations including home connected to wifi and full 5G service and no luck. Hoping once I update the modules and the radio myself it will fix whatever is preventing them.
Can we learn what the update included? What's new in your update?
I thought you had to get an EV tech to run the SPS diagnostics while connected to the OBD port in order to add turn signal cameras?I checked for the lates OTA that re-activates Low Ride mode. Nothing showing. Is there a way to push this update to the truck? (2024 RST First Edition).
I did successfully get the dealership VWP update that gave me the turn signal cameras last week.
That's what VWP (vehicle-wide programming) is.I thought you had to get an EV tech to run the SPS diagnostics while connected to the OBD port in order to add turn signal cameras?
I thought VWP was a more basic vehicle update and the service advisor knows about it from GM service bulletins, while the service advisor does not receive information from GM about many module updates which can only be discovered by the EV tech running SPS software. I guess I need to update my understanding of the nomenclature...That's what VWP (vehicle-wide programming) is.
My understanding is that VWP is a one-click option in SPS2 to update every module that has new calibrations available. The VWP option only seems to appear when logged in under a dealer license.I thought VWP was a more basic vehicle update and the service advisor knows about it from GM service bulletins, while the service advisor does not receive information from GM about many module updates which can only be discovered by the EV tech running SPS software. That is consistent with my experience. My understanding is that VWP is a one-click option in SPS2 to update every module that has new calibrations available. The VWP option only seems to appear when logged in under a dealer license.
USB updates are not necessarily VIN Specific but they need to be prepped and installed along with SPS2 to configure and generate Warranty codes. Is the USB infotainment update file specific to your VIN or something? I would think this should be a file we could download from GM to a USB drive and load it via our vehicle's USB slot. I don't understand why you have to go to a dealer for this.
My wife's Kia infotainment can be updated via OTA or by downloading the file from Kia.
I understand that, but I still see no reason GM can't put infotainment updates on their website so owners can download them. That should be pretty foolproof. I can also understand why module updates would be more of an issue.USB updates are not necessarily VIN Specific but they need to be prepped and installed along with SPS2 to configure and generate Warranty codes.
Some infotainment updates require updates to the module as well.I understand that, but I still see no reason GM can't put infotainment updates on their website so owners can download them. That should be pretty foolproof. I can also understand why module updates would be more of an issue.
I'd really like to get the latest infotainment update since it apparently improves audio performance (not that it's bad now, but I'll take any improvement) and more importantly allows adding new apps including video apps. Anyway, I'm waiting for the new OTA update and hope it will include these improvements.
