GM is aware of the app issues with Ultium vehicles, they have a lot of optimization to do. Lyriq has gotten a lot better since it was released.
Are there any free services with the gm app? I just got a call from on star wanting me to pay 39.99/mo LMAO

Purchasing the Silverado will get you several services free for 8 years.

But apparently you get calls from Onstar that they are going to run out and you will miss out if you don’t pay another $40 a month?! Does the satellite radio start advertising again too?
My RST is a month and a half old. I have not been plagued with ads or OnStar solicitations. However, I thought my wifi hotspot was broken and the dealer was going to charge me $200+ just to diagnose it when the actual problem was that I was past 30 days of ownership. Maybe Service would have figured that out before they charged me, but we told them to NOT diagnose it. Then we realized later why it wasn't working.

The wifi hotspot is a nifty idea, but I pay for unlimited data on my phone, which can also make a hotspot. They say the truck's antenna will get better reception than my phone, but I didn't see any noticeable difference. I bought that equipment in the truck, you'd think I should be able to tap into the antenna, if it really is better, to boost my cell phone without having to pay OnStar. Paying for the wifi hotspot in the truck, which I may only use a few times a year, seems silly. We ran a laptop with video conferencing all through the Nevada desert from a phone hotspot with no glitches.

I agree with you. Seems really dumb since most people can do the hotspot via their phones. I dont see the value in onstar myself, but apparently enough people do since they put the equipment on most every vehicle they sell.

They put the equipment on every vehicle they sell because it gives them important data about every vehicle they have on the road. It was actually a smart move and great investment by GM, but they are trying to recoup that investment with subscriptions. I'm not mad at them, but I haven't found a service yet to make me want to pay the subscription fee. We'll see if that changes in the future. I am getting very used to the google maps, but I think i have that for 8 years, so a while before I pay.

By the way, BMW is starting to charge to enable heated seats and heated steering wheels post sale. It's just a different way for OEMs to try and make money and also follow megatrends such as netflix, hulu, etc. Many people pay subscription fees and forget about them being automatically charged. The car world is hoping for a similar thing.

I hate subscriptions. All my subscriptions ran out for my Bolt. Thankfully, it has AndroidAuto so I can still cast all my apps, but the MyChevrolet app will not interact with the car anymore. The cheapest monthly service is $14.95/month. That is a lot to pay to unlock your door twice a year or check the charge so you don't have to walk 10 steps to the garage to physically look. Maybe if it was $5 a month I might bite.

I think that was a non issue starting with 2020 Bolts you got 10 years free of EV Access. My 2023 Bolt EUV has this.

Lets you change your charging preferences, find charging stations, plan routs, have charging notifications, and see your charging status all in the app.

Basic functionality shouldn't be a subscription.

Its nothing but a money grab. BMW tried to for a while with the heated seats, but the backlash was more than they could take and had to back track. BMW drops plan to charge a monthly fee for heated seats

Yeah, that was a tough ask....the thought, don't subscribe in the summer, subscribe again in the winter. But it's hardware you're definitely already paying for. Onstar is easy not to sign up for today. We'll see where this heads, but I've opted out for a while now and continue to.

Going to add here after a weekend out camping. Had some wild head wind on the way our. 30km/h headwind, 50km/h wind gusts. Honestly this thing is so heavy I had no clue until I looked at the weather. Lol. Anyways as expected, efficiency took a hit. On the highway going 105km/h I was getting 1.1km/kwh. Once we cut south it improved quite a bit and ended up with an average of 1.3km/kwh.

On the way back was wildly efficient. Slight north wind and downhill. I averaged 3.6km/kwh going 90km/h with a 5000lb rv trailer which is better than I get with the truck empty (3.2) lol

Round trip was 1.7km/kwh which is pretty amazing considering the conditions on the way out. Charged the whole weekend at 12A while camping and picked up 20% so that was a nice bonus.

Fun fact, learned the hard way. You can't back up a trailer, even in tow/haul mode, without the lights plugged in.

My hubby pulled out our little sailboat to check the hitch height before our trip next weekend. He ended up running to the store to buy a lower hitch. The Silverado EV is a little higher, in standard height than our old Sequoia. He came back with a new, lower, hitch insert and installed the right size ball. It looked great. Trailer was nice and level. He went to push the boat back, 30 ft. into the sideyard, but the truck slammed on the brakes in a very dramatic way. (repeat several times) Finally, he thought to connect the lights and it worked great. Who needs trailer lights when you never leave your driveway? The Silverado EV does! hahah

I thought I read that the Silverado EV had a flat and round trailer light plug? Fortunately, we had an adapter. Our trailer uses a flat four.
I have turned that to alert only. It happened twice while backgin my camper with lights plugged in.

It has also happened to me three times backing up in the driveway or parking lot. Almost violent stops with no car coming at me. I think there was a car nearby each time (parked -not moving). This feature needs some work.
