Just got confirmation the suspension controller bricked. They are replacing it under warranty. Dealer has been cool.
these modules are way to sensitive. Have a friend who was getting her modules updated on her vistiq and one of the modules bricked as well. 30 days later, car is still at dealer waiting for the part :/

My part will be here Monday thank goodness. But I don't blame dealers for being afraid to do this. The latest Telsa model Y gets 1 update every 1-2 weeks. They have made updates BORING. The fact that this is GMs reimagination of a car from the ground up and it still has 50 modules that need to be updated individually and can play possum for no reason is laughable.

My ’24 Silverado RST is currently in the shop, and I’m being repeatedly told that it’s already ‘up to date.’ However, they can’t find any update for it. I’ve shared YouTube videos and these forums, but no update has been provided. Any idea on how to handle the situation?
For any software updates, if your truck is still covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty, VWP is to be completed upon request and any other time your vehicle is serviced. For free. Print out bulletin 24-NA-143 and politely, respectfully present it to your service advisor if you get pushback.

Tried that, they will only do it when a new TSB comes out instructing them to do the same.

You'll need to find a different dealer then. I, for instance, have an appointment scheduled with my second one to get this completed on Tuesday.

Sucks. GM should be much, MUCH more clear about this to their dealer base.

It's the issue of the Service Writer, go around them get their manager or technician to help you or complain directly to GM Corporate that a dealership is refusing to do work and they should help.

GM is clear and send out regular emails via tech connect and the back office about this stuff but I think many Service Writers don't keep up.

This is true. I'm taking my vehicle in on Wednesday for an update only and they told me it's free because it's still under warranty.

If dealers are not acting how GM wants them to, GM needs to find a better carrot to stick to ensure that they do.

Don't get me wrong, it's on both, but only one really has skin in the game. Unless it's setup like this to purposefully dissuade people from getting updates. That might be even more devious.

GM is not in charge of the Dealers, they can provide guides and training but they can't watch over everything. If Customers encounter issues they need to reach out to GM so they are made aware and they can correct.

100%, this is a GM issue more than a dealership issue.

If you get paid a flat fee to do an upgrade that will likely end up bricking some hard to get modules, which will then require you to sit on the car and annoy the customer or give them a loaner, you would be reluctant to update it too. Until it’s resolved GM should either do mobile reps for this or equip dealers with parts that commonly go bad.

At minimum they should be issuing voluntary TSBs for updates.

The Updates are all covered under one TSB... any warranty work is covered by flat fees. There is no need for other TSBs unless special circumstances occur. Rarely do modules get bricked unless there was already an underlining issue, or steps not followed.

No this is a Dealership issue.

follow the TSB wording. It says perform the vehicle wide programming when the vehicle is “in for service”. You get one complimentary service for tire rotation. Schedule the tire rotation, ask them to perform the vehicle wide programming procedure as well as the USB TDU. If the service writer says there is no update ask to speak to the tech or the SM.

For those that don’t mind waiting a bit, this will come OTA soon.

Thanks for comments that GM OTA update will come soon.

Are these software delay gm engineered to make folks to go and buy SPS2 & Subscriptions ?

This thread shows how disorganized gm and gm dealership are that they could fail to do these updates and perhaps they have bricked a few EV along they way and makes them hesitant by refusing to update upon request.
Something is fishy here, Does gm not properly compensate gm dealership for their time to do warranty and VWP ? and account for repeat and failed attempted module updates... !!!

GM needs to fix this long over due OTA Update fiasco.
Is there any lesson learnt for gm ? i.e. Software Designed Vehicle is centered around the software itself and they wrapped with a hardware that works flawlessly with Software.
and Not built the EV with OEM junk yards of parts that at times do not work with another modules in vehicle, and incompetent OEM that do not stay on top of updating their software to work flawlessly with rest of the EV ...

It makes me wonder if Tesla and Rivian has passed that level of maturity years ago... but gm is building EV also for a long time too -

What gm could improve here? to succeed in this Software Defined Vehicle journey ?

Personal take is that the vast, vast majority of EV/ICE owners don't care about having the latest/greatest software updates, but... just drive their vehicles until/unless something happens/goes wrong and then they update... maybe. Even as a software/stats nerd, I don't really care about having the latest unless it fixes something I personally needed (PowerBase I'm looking at you). There will always be the "iPhone" people though that must have the very latest of everything. Seems like a stressful, anxiety filled way to live, but to each their own of course.

I can only speculate on GMs reasoning here. The OTA updates, since they are performed OTA, have the potential to cause a lot more issues. So they are likely doing extra due diligence in validating before pushing OTA. Of course the perception that the 2026 models have features the pervious models do not doesn't hurt sales..especially at a time when customers may have a choice between a new 2025 leftover or a 2026...but its likely just the fact that it takes time for OTAs to be tested/validated.

Also, remember if a module gets bricked by an OTA the vehicle is not already in the dealership...it would have to be towed resulting in extra costs and customer inconvenience.

TLDR...my speculation...GM being conservative with the OTAs.

Good news, although the link isn't working for me.

It was working hours ago.

They could stop using third party modules with proprietary third party software in each one.

it's called vertical integration of the in-vehicle software. But GM is incapable of making a change like this is less than a decade. They've known they need to do it for nearly a decade but they are afraid to pull the Band-Aid off. And it impacts customers because it makes any software change seem like open heart surgery.

you do not need a techline connect subscription, only need the SPS2.

turn off wifi, wired connection, Disable AV, run as admin, make sure no other USB devices are plugged into the PC.
You forgot the recommendation to put a four leaf clover on the left and right side of the dash, and one in exactly the center of the dash before starting the update. Make sure the four leaves are aligned perfectly with magnetic north in your area. It's not a bad practice to park the vehicle aligned with front towards magnetic north too. ;)
