GM is pitching in $650mm for this. I wonder if China is still doing the refining since NIMBY mindset already wants to stop the mining, and would likely prevent the refining in the USA.

well there’s a step, lithium is the easy one and we have plenty of it. Now they gotta figure out the rest, although lithium is what they are after to satisfy the percentage of battery materials making up the bulk necessary for EV tax credits.

my guess is rare earth still going to come from China and cobalt mostly from Africa.

I guess it's time for the USA to enter a trade agreement with Cuba to get access to their cobalt.
