Wow, after a year, is a gasser better…

On my 1 Year Silverado 4WT Anniversary. 6 miles to 24,000 miles. Yes this is very sarcastic but all of my EV facts are true…

Why would anyone have one of these trucks! 24,000 miles, 12 months and all of this crazy Maintenance expense. I thought EVs were inexpensive to Maintain. I cannot wait to go back to a gasser.

Chevrolet Dealer Service Cost
5000 miles Free (1st is free for all new GM EVs)
10,000 $32.00
15,000 $32.00
20,000 $32.00
24,000 $32.00

My service costs
23,000 wiper blades $26
I bottle washer fluid $3.97
1 bottle de-icer $3.97

$162.00 for 24,000 miles.

And my goodness. All that weight and my OEM tires are 1/2 worn at 24K miles. That’s terrible.

On top of this massive expense….charging. My truck in Maine (top 10 in electric rates in USA) equals 38 MPG Summer/30 MPG Winter with a gas vehicle at $3/gallon (current street regular price) , charged 95% at night at home. And my first 15,000 miles, was charged free at work everyday. (Moved on from that job)

Only 500 miles on a charge. My friend told me his 4x4 F150 5.0 goes 700 miles on the highway at 80. I cannot believe I fell for this EV crap.

Next power outages. I long to find my 8KW gas generator, drag it from the back of the garage, fix the mouse damage, add gas periodically, have it not start and be without power in the rain getting it going when the next storm blows through.

That exhaust sound just scares my pups as well. The Rubbermaid interior is so hard to clean and plugging my vacuum into the interior such a hassle. Also finding my vacuum in the frunk is so much harder than pulling the shop vac from the basement, finding an extension cord, the accessories, untangling the cord and cleaning my vehicle (and putting it all away after).

Cooking….out of a pickup…I went to a friend’s recently, who does not have much time left, with my grill, air fryer, convection oven and made him Ribeyes with seasoned asparagus and mini baked potatoes as well as garlic bread out of the bed of my truck. No mess for his family and a great evening. I hope there is time to do it again. We all love you Steve!

Finally I have struggled so much towing with it. I am glad all those folks told me you cannot tow with an electric truck.

I am thinking I should head back to the dealer to trade it in for a gasser ASAP. “Why would you ever want an electric truck”.

100% real and true. Uploaded my last invoice. Every one has been $32.

What a great vehicle. Yes I had to replace my wiper blades at 23,000 miles for $27. That’s it.

I would not have done the blades except my son told me they were real bad after 11 months with lots of streaking. After changing , I realized they were.

Love it! My anti-EV wife is starting to come around just based on the hassle of trying to fit in getting oil changes done while dealing with the kids activities. I was like “guess who doesn’t have to do oil changes… 🤷 😀 ” . Wish GM had an EV van… we checked out the VW but too expensive abs 230mi range???

Your response’s are not reasonable. Every vehicle has costs. Gas is $3 a gallon one day and $4-$5 when they feel like raising prices. Electric is clean energy and your tires are 1/2 worn @24,000 miles that’s about right for your 50,000 miles tires. Your just complaining to hear yourself talk.

Oh and by the way. No comparable truck goes 700 miles to a full tank of gas.

I love my EV, to hell with gas. I’ve had several gas trucks. And none compare to this one. With the exception of the shitty google system(versus Appleplay) my RST IS A BEAST!

Similar experience for me breaking 30k km. Also hate that the truck starts and warms up in the winter without opening the garage door to get that crisp -20C air in the garage.

Sometimes I take it to the gas station and pretend I'm pumping gas because I don't know what else to do with my time.
awesome! I may have to try the gas station tri

awesome! I may have to try the gas station trick to curb my anxiety! Thanks.

I went and put some red diesel in my 5 gallon jugs today while driving my SEV.
Got a few looks at the station.

OP, good write up and I couldn't agree more. Good for feeding a dying friend.
I did the same for a long lost friend a few years back.

GM changed the OBD2 protocol for the '26 models. I can't get Carscanner to work on our '26 AT4. It worked just fine on the '25 Denali we demoed. I'm curious to know the actual capacity of the HVB in our extended range. In the '25 Denali Max Carscanner was reporting 226kw.

Can you let me know wheee you got that mid cabin screen mesh. I haul about 30 boxes everyday and am tired of them sliding to the front seats when I come to a light. Hope to hear from you soon. I have 50,000kms after my first year and not a single issue. Ran the truck 2000kms in -39C pushing 5 inch snow for 450kms then 2 foot drifts for 250kms. Stayed warm and stopped to visit 6 customers on the way and got back into a warm truck every time while it ran outside for 15 to 20 minutes each time. Awesome.

We have a '16 Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel that we needed at our off grid vacation home when I had our Lightning. Now that we have quite a bit more range and much better charging I'm selling it. I used to like diesels for their torque and drivability but I have come to despise it. The throttle response sucks compared to any EV and the 8 speed tranny which I used to like is constantly shifting. So annoying.

No kidding. I never liked the lag on diesel trucks to get the power. My EV transition became complete after I gave up on the Lightning due to range and briefly went to the F150 hybrid. Unless it’s a rec vehicle with a manual or DCT, it just feels dumb having a transmission hunting gears after experiencing uninterrupted acceleration in EV drivetrains.

Great post. I am coming up on 15k at the 1 year mark. We liked the ev so much that we traded wife’s car for another ev. Don’t see too many SEV s on the road. Will post on the cost of 15k service.

I'm a little concerned.... I haven't had to take the hit yet for the washer fluid and wiper blades... yet.

Similar experience here as well. Right at 29,000 miles and original tires are about 1/2 gone. That was one of our biggest concerns buying what essentially is a 3/4 ton truck. The $35 to rotate tires every 7,500 miles is something I’m looking forward to not paying once this first set finally wears out. Fueling 95% of those miles from prepaid electricity from solar. We love our Silverado EV. Still remain surprised we don’t see more of these trucks on the road.
