For an all-electric vehicle, 24-inch wheels are massive. Yeah it's a pickup truck but does Silverado EV really need them? Chevrolet didn't provide any specs or mention why an owner might want them. Could this just be optional (extra dough) bling that slightly impacts range with smaller, more fuel efficient wheel options as standard equipment?

When I saw that news I was surprised as well. I have to think that those are the top of the line wheels and that the standard ones will be smaller. I'm curious how the range differs between the 24's and the smaller ones.
I would think that the 24" wheels are offered on the higher trims. The F-150 lightning has 18", 20" and 22" wheel options depending upon the package. Noteworthy is that the Platinum trim, which as the 22" wheels, has 20 miles less range than the 20" wheels on the Lariat extended range. (The Platinum has the extended range battery automatically.) I would be amazed if the range is 400 miles with 24" wheels.
I would prefer 20" and consider 22" the max I would want. I prefer more sidewall on a truck tire.

With how urbanized pickups have become I think these wheels were really meant for that crowd.

It has 35 inch tires so it still has a good amount of sidewall. Similar sidewall height to the ICE Silverado with 20 inch wheels.
But with the hybrid unibody construction and air suspension it will undoubtedly ride better than any body on frame truck ever could.
