The last I saw was GM had targeted 2035 for 2500 and up EV trucks. To me, the battery tech is going to have to advance significantly for the heavier trucks. The generally heavy usage towing and hauling that these trucks are designed to do would be a large drain on batteries and would limit range severely. I wonder if this is the reason that these platforms are going to be a bit further down the road.

Agreed. Range is the biggest consideration with a heavy rig.

I'd also want the ability to add generally-available, custom work bodies and towing systems.

To replace my Ram 2500 I'd need to be able to add an aluminum flatbed body and gooseneck hitch system. AND be able to tow >10,000 lbs. > 400 miles per day -- and fully charge overnight at campgrounds.

I’m considering the Silverado EV, and getting a smaller RV to pull with it. But will need many details before committing.

The Silverado EV is only available as a 1500 class model but does Chevrolet need a heavy duty 2500 and 3500 model? What would you look for in an all-electric heavy duty pickup? Although GM hasn't announced future availability of them, I think they'll happen in the near future.

Perhaps once solar charging can catch up. A bed cover and roof of solar cells will increase range abilities or a battery add on for the trunk to increase range?

Towing capacity, carrying capacity, brakes / brake controller (electric, electric over hydraulic). I think torque will be there by default. I’m a multiple superduty owner and I’m tired of chemistry lab every time my Fords pop the service coolant system message. First it should be plural because there are two, and secondly you need a small lab set to get it right, and third, after 105k miles you dump both which are a total of 45 quarts. I do my own mechanic work. And along with multiple cooling systems I’ll be glad to ditch belts, hoses, differentials, u joints, drive shafts, transmission, engine, oil changes, and all the other flushes. I’d be happy for 100 mile range on an HD. I pull privately local only, not a hot shot or commercial. 34’ Brute Gooseneck, 22’ gooseneck car hauler, 18’ bumper cattle trailer, 14’ gooseneck 7 yard dump trailer and 3 bumper pull flatbeds plus the toys! Super Natique. Ahhh.

I think this comment was misinterpreted. GM had originally said they would be all EV by 2035 except for heavy duty trucks which would go all EV by 2040. The recent 2035 announcement was just them moving up the deadline for the HD trucks. I expect to see EV HD trucks much earlier than that.

GM has already announced a commercial medium duty truck and van which are expected by 2025. They will be available as EV or as a hybrid EV / Hydrogen fuel cell. I expect that we will also see HD pickups using that same setup around the same time. With GM's current battery and Hydrotec fuel cell technology I expect they will be capable of somewhere between 500-750 miles of range. With Ultium 2.0 and even 60% better capacity, they could be approaching 1000 miles with an EV fuel cell hybrid.

For some reference, the Toyota Mirai fuel cell car has 400 miles of range. GM could build an HD truck with the 200 kWh pack for about 300 miles range, then double (or more) the hydrogen that the Toyota uses for another 300-400 miles.

That sounds about like what they would do. Custom beds will be a must to cater to the commercial crowd.
Which current Silverado EV model and spec are you going for?
