Sweet. Does the siolverado actually have an app so that you can change everything on the phone like with our Teslas?
Yes, but it doesn't work super well. It can take minutes to get the charging portion to load to be able to change the charge limit. It's quite annoying as someone who also owns a Tesla where the app is fantastic.

The app has some things, not everything Tesla can do, but GM is slowly doing it.

So, we are navigating to an EA station, how can I tell if it is pre-conditioning?
If you are navigating to the station it will do it on its own. I think it will only tell you if it finishes. I can't recall.

So we drove about 225 mi. We started out at a little over 90% state of charge. We had to stop where we did because when we turn left at Madera and head up into the high Sierras there was not going to be any chargers after we got out of the valley. The guess-o-meter said we'd get into EA at Walmart, Madera CA with 13% charge. We got in with 30% state of charge. Guess our boat was lighter than it figured.

What a terrible charging experience!!! Sorry this is so long...
  • First of all it was 110° and the chargers had no shade.
  • The spots were not trailer friendly so we had to drop the boat in a random parking spot at Walmart. But we expected that.
  • The charge spots were on a parking lane that was one-way so they were all slanted one direction. But we had to back in against the flow of traffic which is really difficult in a big truck in a narrow parking lane. That was unpleasant.
  • The first cabinet we pulled up to said it was working but would not initiate a charge. We watched two other people also fail. That was cabinet # 6
  • We changed to cabinet #1, a 350. And were able to initiate a charge. We figured we were going to have to charge up to 80% to have enough range to climb to 7,500 ft elevation. And have enough range left to move around while we're here and get back down. So because it was going to be a long charge we walked away to go have lunch across the street. We left the dog in the car with the air conditioning on.
  • I came back right away to check on the dog and it was a good thing because somehow the air conditioning kept dropping out of auto and it was on fan only. Also somehow we got logged in to the truck as "guest" and we weren't able change that while moving even though I disabled lock out. So all our presets weren't working.
  • When I got back to the truck charging had discontinued. It had been maybe 10 minutes. An F-150. Lightning had pulled in on the other side of cabinet #1 and took the cable from the other side of the cabinet and plugged in. This one cabinet had two CCS cables. If you plugged in the second one the first one would stop. It's like it was supposed to have CHAdeMO and CCS, but they replaced the CHAdeMO with another CCS? It wasn't the Ford's fault. If you see two cables you think they both work and that the cabinet is going to split the power. That was very weird. When the Ford got done charging and left we were able to plug in and charge again at that same #1 cabinet. We charged pretty well after that. But that was just weird.

I didn’t think the AC worked while charging in this truck. Please don’t trust the truck to keep the AC on for your dog, it’s not designed to do so and there is no way for you to check the temperature in the truck to confirm in the app like you can with a Tesla. Even with the “hack” I would not trust it, these early GM EVs are glitchy and unpredictable, the result could be tragic. The rest sounds like standard non Tesla supercharging normal kine stuff.

*Even in the Tesla I trust but verify, I check the app every 10 min to see the temperature in the car. In 110 a dog could die in 15 minutes.

Sorry your charge experience sucked. An all too-common experience, unfortunately. sailboats can be easy tows, relatively speaking. Good aero and hydrodynamic shapes reduce drag. Are you going to the High Sierra regatta, by chance? If so, what are you sailing? I used to race a C-15, then a Laser and a Catalina 22 up here at Whiskeytown and other local lakes. Never made it to a High Sierra regatta.

I do not think it wasn't the F-150s fault. You can't just go to the back of a numbered station and take their charging capability. And of course it's either one or the other cable.
Charging etiiquette, people

At 110° temps AC is only going to work so long if you are charging... the Truck is either going to derate itself or move AC to the battery to cool it. Still need to know more about its behavior.

Given the temperatures, it makes sense technically for the truck to devote cooling to the battery during the charging. However, Chevy should give us the option of keeping AC going and slowing down the charging. Not only might we need to keep pets cool, there are charge stations where there are no facilities for people to stay cool. I can just picture someone dying of heat stroke sitting in an un-airconditioned cab waiting for a crappy charger to do its deed. One lawsuit should change their minds pronto.

It does Derate the charging but if the pack gets to hot it's going to have to divert some cooling to the pack.

It would be nice to know the specifics of when and how much cabin cooling is diverted to the battery pack and how charging times are going to be impacted.

What information is the app presenting? Should she have been able to tell that the cabin AC had shut off? Can it display the cabin temperature. Can it program a warning if it does shut off?

I get a text message when my Bolt charger shuts down unexpectedly. That is the least that should happen. Should also be able to monitor interior temps all the time. Yes, we all know to be especially careful with creatures in the vehicle.
