Rivian now billing customers for tows to service centers, even for warranty repairs

Until now, Rivian's policy would be to tow the owner's R1T or R1S to the service center, and return it to them free of charge.

$55 base fee + $6.50 per mile. Which can be a lot of miles since there aren't a ton of Rivian service centers around.

If it's not ADM, they'll still find a way to get customers to pay lol. What's the inflation rate again? Maybe today it's now $6.75 per mile lol. I bet some finance person forgot to include in the warranty liability accrual an estimate for towing costs hah.

The source of that news article was a posting on one of the Rivian forums. A revision to that posting was recently posted. Basically if the Rivian cannot be safely driven to an SC then towing is free. This is still a guy punch and an example of why I will continue to have other EV truck options.

So far I have no issues with my R1T and thoroughly enjoy it but if service becomes an issue then I will move on.

I do think that Rivian is trying reduce the towing costs and SC workload by weeding out the number of nit picking requests by some customers. Hopefully in the not too distant future there will be more SCs and mobile units.

Certainly a benefit of having dealerships everywhere. Of course the techs need to be trained, tow companies need to learn how to tow large EV trucks.
