And you "know" this how? GM has not announced their method for order allocation yet. Anyone who tells you how it is going to be is just typing to see their words on the screen.
My apology but I should have been more clear. My statements are based on my recent personal experiences with Ford, Rivian, Volvo and Kia EV vehicles.
GM could be different and I hope they are. IMO a fully refundable $100.00 deposit does NOT invoke any type of serious commitment from GM. Additionally the complexity involved to manufacture vehicles to each specific configuration in the order of the received reservation is not realistic from a production and parts supply profitability standpoint. No where in the reservation verbiage does GM commit to anything other than a MSRP but that the dealership will set the final price. They let us assume everything else.
To be clear my comments are based on my actual experiences over the last two years reserving, ordering, waiting, canceling and taking delivery of EV vehicles(R1T, EV6) and almost delivery of MME and XC40 Recharge.
I share my experience to help folks with out prior experience with reserving, ordering and receiving an EV understand and set reasonable expectations. I started out thinking I was in line and that Car manufacturers would of course honor that. It was a painful lesson to learn over time how wrong I was. My experience is the norm not the exception. Remember that Ford and GM are not very different.
Finally it is important to clearly understand the huge difference between a reservation and an order. Additionally you must understand the role of the dealership. By law you MUST purchase your new vehicle through a dealership. That means that they outright own the vehicle until you pay them THEIR price. They typically add thousands of dollars to the MSRP for vehicles that are in short supply with a high demand.
I am not trying to be a downer, just trying help uninitiated folks understand what they can expect.
Manufacturing and DISTRIBUTION of vehicles is a huge highly complex process with the absolute top priority of being profitable. Hence vehicle manufacturers do not make commitments beyond favorable broad strokes for marketing purposes. They are not evil just trying to make a profit using ignorance is bliss.
