I just realized they don’t have the side boxes now. I liked those, although I could see some advantage to the wider bed at times. Hopefully they still have a spot to keep tie downs and other stuff.

Great Pics @HawaiiEV! I was thinking the same thing. I remember my Escalade EXT very fondly for its ability to do just that. Also carries really big TV boxes, secured under the tonneau

Rear side doors can also help with loading awkward loads, an added benefit over standard pickup truck beds.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I do not carry lumber, sofas and such large items often enough that it would make sense for me to pay for the midgate. 🤷‍♂️ And yes, I do use my truck as a truck to carry stuff on a regular basis. Just not long stuff like lumber.

I never could figure out the advantage of the short bed over a suburban or van. We take our trash to the dump so it’s nice to have the stinky rubbish back there but otherwise... I think if I didn’t carry stuff that stuck out the back or trash I would prefer a full size suburban. I hope we will be able to lock the tailgate and have a decent cover, it rains all the time here and it’s nice to have stuff locked in the bed and dry, another advantage to suburban over shortbed.

Yeah for real, I hope Snugtop comes out with a canopy for the Silverado EV... TBH that's the layout I want since I'm in California and stuff is too easy to steal out of truck beds.

Actually maybe I should just scrap this Silverado EV and wait for a Escalade EV or Yukon EV lol. Lol I shoulda got on the waitlist for a Rivian R1S.

I miss my Avalanche. Besides being able to carry 8' material under cover, it was nice to be able to remove the back glass. Windows down, roof open, back glass out is as close as I could get to a convertible truck.

Stealth camping, and also when we go out with our adult son he will probably prefer having his own private digs in the truck with us in the trailer. He’s over 6’4” too, so just putting a nice futon in there, putting down the midgate, he’ll have climate control, power, and if we get the moon roof a nice view too

Different strokes for different folks, I guess… My wife has a Suburban, so I guess we almost have best of both worlds then. LOL!

Also, kind of difficult to dump a yard or two of dirt or mulch from a front end loader inside a Suburban or a van. Or haul something tall. And I much rather haul a dirty engine/tranny combo on the bed than in a Suburban. Not that she’d let me haul anything dirty in her rig.

So yeah, despite what a lot of people try to convince others of, even the short bed has many uses. Not everybody needs an eight foot bed. Or nine. Or what ever.

That’s true, engine or tranny makes sense. Damn near impossible to dump anything from a loader in an avalanche/Silverado EV without destroying the bed. That you do need an 8 foot bed or trailer for, know that from experience, I borrowed a trailer a couple times. I don’t mean to judge anyone personally, I got the Escalade for the same reason I want the Silverado EV, eight foot bed and crew cab. I’ve never owned a short bed other then the Escalade not converted. I’ve gotten by with six foot beds but always had the tailgate down when anything serious happened like hauling lumber, furniture or motorcycles. Pretty much all I ever got in the back of the Escalade unconverted would be boxes, groceries, tools, dogs and rubbish. I always wished the Escalade bed was half a foot longer unconverted to fit my gorilla ladder without popping the last cover or tailgate down. Frunk will be great for a lot of that stuff. A lot of trucks run around now just as people haulers with minimal bed use, that’s why I’ve always wondered why they don’t buy a suburban. I understand why they don’t want vans, but damn if they aren’t useful with the low load floor and people hauling. The suburban was an even better hauler with barn doors.

I just realized the silverado EV bed is half a foot longer then the avalanche, that might make a heck of a difference! 5’ 3” vs 5’ 11” It’s the lightning that stuck with the baby bed 5’ 6”. That would be a big enough difference to fit my ladder.

Frunk. I loved the saddle bags on the Avalanche, very handy to keep hitch and tie downs, tools, etc. Hopefully the Silverado EV will have an under frunk storage or something similar to what the Lightning and R1T have. I keep my hitch and tie downs with the spare tire under the bed floor on the R1T.

At the time I had the XLT, I also was driving the Suburban in my profile pic. You would be surprised at how much the top opening of a suburban/tahoe/yukon narrows, meaning that large boxes end up not being able to fit at the upper corners. I did get mulch and top soil in the XLT a few times, and most landscape supply places near me have front end loaders with a narrower bucket due to the number of short bed rigs they need to fill. Works just fine.
