Has your opinion improved since the announcement

GM did a very flashy marketing and announcement for the Silverado EV. Huge battery and range, fast charging. Awesome features like the midgate, WOW mode for incredible acceleration, onboard power/generator, 20k pounds towing option! Attractive modern styling inside and out. Most importantly starting at $40k with lots of options 50k-80k. The payload seemed questionable but that was the only negative I remember.

We know a lot more now, anyone more excited now? I personally feel GM overmarketed and overhyped. I don’t see fleets even able to afford an 80k wt with 8k lbs of towing. How much is a well equipped truck with a midgate going to cost? The 105k RST is starting to look like a bargain. It looks similar to the lightning where only a base WT with the large battery will even qualify for the tax credit.

I’ll bet excited when DeLuz Chevrolet in Hilo calls me up to say my RST is on the way

Especially since it will be at MSRP, when the truck launches the ADM complaints will be endless. I’m happy you are going for the RST, I think like the Rivian, those who got in earliest with the best trim will be the happiest.

Definitely negative. I'm picking up a Model X now that Tesla slashed price again. I wasted weeks trying to get a Yukon or Escalade. It's just too much pain going through any of the old-school dealers now. I'm trying to cancel my Silverado EV reservation today, but it also requires going through the dealer as well.

Model X is old tech and probably overpriced even after the recent price cut... but the buying process beats the alternatives hah. Also I like the way the new refresh looks. And it comes in red.

I have zero confidence that GM can manufacture any units in volume (how many LYRIQ's and Hummer EVs are made each month?) GM simply lost the ability to get vehicles past PDI... so how could anyone expect to get a Silverado BEV in 2024? And even if the stock does get past PDI, I never want to step foot in a GM showroom ever again.
More excited? Not really.

Some of it is things GM could control/fix, like the dearth of specifications and pricing for each trim level.

Some of the meh is not necessarily GM's fault, like the way the Lightning forum went from "Oh wow" to "Oh sh*t" in it's general review of the truck, and especially the partnership with SunRunAway.

Agreed with the others above that the stealership model is a huge negative for all legacy OEMs, and GM is no exception. If the CT and Silverado come out anywhere close on specs/price ratio, I'll go with the CT just to not have to deal with the crooked game.

Losing hope for sure, car lots are crazy now and economy has forced some very bad rates.

Stealership sucks. I had been horrible time with Ford dealer for Lightning. Now, Ford prices themselves out. If GM follows Ford footstep to price itself out, I'll buy ICE pickup.

Improved, not necessarily. It hasn't declined either. Same level of excitement to when I first saw the 2022 Superbowl ad. I'm definitely still anxious and optimistic.
declined, they (GM) deciding that EVs don't need CarPlay/android auto and you have to use their yet unannounced proprietary entertainment system - I cancelled my preorder over that.

Did you actually get your $100 back? I've been waiting weeks... nobody at the dealership will respond about how this refund works, since they dealership doesn't have the ability to execute a chargeback directly.

nope, nothing yet. Got a call from the dealer but their message was garbled, figured I'd give it a month. 3/31 was when I cancelled.

If you don't have your $ yet after this week, I think something is wrong with the cancellation. Their SLA was supposed to be 14 business days. You should call GM's "EV Concierge" at 866-790-5600.

Whoops, the friendly people at GM have corrected me that the EV Concierge is actually 1‑833‑EVCHEVY (833-382-4389)
wonder how long it would take to cancel 170,000 preorders with one phone number :)

Lucky for GM they claim they aren't responsible for handling pre-orders. Do they'd probably just tell the customer to call the dealership.
I let my reservation for a Ford Lightning pass without ordering, and received a credit back on the credit card account within days.

I requested GM to have the regional manager of the NorCal/SF zone call the dealership on my behalf. The dealership told him the sales managers were in a meeting and would get back to him. This is the longest-azz meeting in the history of sales meetings. They've been telling me the sales managers have been in a meeting since mid-April. It is worse than "the check is in the mail".

GM's dealer network is a joke, and GM enables this trash behavior.
BTW, the sales managers at the dealership are still in a meeting. The meeting will never end until I go away I guess lol.

My case is now escalated to some team called the "General Motors Executive Office". I have no clue what to expect now.

All for $100 hahaha.
Interesting analysis of the current auto market:

Whohoooo got a paper check in the mail from the dealer that I placed the Silverado EV deposit! I hope if you all have to cancel your reservations, it goes more smoothly. Took way too many phone calls and emails to resolve what should be a 5 minute exercise.
