GM has filed a patent application for a "Blanket Airbag With Integrated Seat Belt System".
In the application it describes a seat with a dedicated area that stores a blanket airbag. When a collision happens the blanked airbag would deploy and cover the body of the person in the seat. At teh same time electromechanical restraints would secure the passenger in. The system would protect the occupant by a seatbelt and the airbag at the same time. Even if they are lying down in a reclined seat.
