Does the Ford F-150 Lightning deserve to win North American Truck of the Year?

The Lightning has been named 2023 North American Truck of the Year. Was it the right choice or did they get it wrong. The other trucks in contention were the Silverado ZR2 and the Lordstown Endurance.

It was going to be an EV truck as soon as possible.
I think they got it right. It is a EV truck for the masses, is in production, excellent performance specs. Lordstown is a concept that will probably disappear into the either.

The ZR2 is a descent truck but it is after all an ICE.
Probably so. But unless the Lightning can match Silverado EV and Cybertruck with a comparable range offering, it won't hold the title long. I am keeping away from the Lightning because 340 miles of advertised range just ain't enough. The more intriguing question: Does the Silverado EV or Tesla CT win 2024 Truck of the Year?

They seem like great contenders!
Yes it deserves it. Even though it's flawed, the Lightning in a ground breaking truck. May there Silverado can be ToTY next year if they deliver enough of them. The Cyber will still be something Elon brings out every time he tries to pump up the stock.

A vehicle is only eligible for the competition if it is all new or significantly updated. The F150 won't be in the running next year.

I'm not even sure the Tesla will be in the running for 2024 unless they build trucks for testing by mid-year. If they come out too late they will be in the 2025 competition going up against the Sierra and Ram EVs.
Tesla CT is too expensive and impractical to win. Lordstown is a fleet vehicle and not really practical for families/vacations/towing. I'd vote for the Ford this year. See how the Silverado holds up when it comes out. If it meets expectations it'll surely win next year.
