I got an email after submitting the reservation, but it didn’t have any information. It was just a “thanks for reserving” email. It’s so early that the dealers don’t have any more info than the rest of us.

Probably depends on the dealer quite a bit I got a couple of emails from them first and then exchanged a few texts with the Internet Sales Manager, but that's about it. All this in a span of 2-3 days after January 5th.

Never heard back when I emailed him asking whether they will sell at MSRP or at "market price" or what ever you want to call it. Now I'm considering changing my reservation to another dealer who has confirmed MSRP.

But yeah, as @Flapjacks said, not a whole lot of info about practicalities are even known yet. Or at least what they can share. They are probably flying a bit blind for the moment.

My dealer emailed me and we sent a few more emails back and forth. I kinda think they have no info. The weirdest thing was I wanted to reserve the work truck. I do my reservation early May 2022. I didn’t see a selection for wt or rst so I really didn’t choose. I saw no selection on my confirmation email. It saw WT or RST. Dealer said we wouldn’t get to eventually place orders, instead GM would send a truck to whatever build spec they chose. When it arrived the dealer would go down their reservation list to ask if the person would like to purchase it. If the answer is no they go to the next person until someone does. I asked about color. He said no, they will just get whatever they get. It’s only $100 reservation but there should be a little better communication from GM to the reservation holders in my opinion. I also placed a Maverick Hybrid order in Oct 2021 and never got it. My order is missing or lost even though I got an order confirmation fromFord. All of this is screwy and I just got burned by Ford so I’m scared a bit. I love my 95 z71 Silverado but drive 82 miles each weekday at 12 mpg.

Welcome to the forum. Do you know what their initial allocations are like? Are you considering any other pickups?

I don’t know their initial allocations. I think it’s all risky unless you are super wealthy. A cause I was unable to choose a model (WT or RST) at reservation, if the dealer is right and offers me a rst, maybe even way above msrp then I think they can cancel my reservation if I don’t take it. I could only hope for a $40k WT on my finances.

Now that is a big pile of steaming bovine manure, for sure! Sure as hell hope that dealer is just speaking out of their ass. 🤦‍♂️

Welcome @Bodageta! That doesn't sound right to me from your dealer. Have you reached out to other dealers to see if they're doing the same thing?

All the Detroit automakers have a completely messed up relationship with their dealer network. Don't treat the dealers as an extension of GM; just treat them as independent bodies that mostly do whatever the heck they want but happen to sell Chevys and GMC. Knowing this, your best bet is to find a local Chevy dealer that will do what you want, then shift your pre-order to them. Ideally this will be both in terms of how your order will be placed and what type of markup they will hit you with. The Silverado pre-order site lets you change which dealer has your reservation very easily.

My local Chevy dealer said that their expectation is that GM will open their 2024 order book when the time is right, and reservation holders will be able to get their order in to be built. What I can't get in writing is a commitment not to price-screw the customer with stupid fees and "dealer installed options" that drive up the transaction price. Sigh.

But, remember the production sequencing at the assembly plant requires them to produce a mix of vehicles that meet both the order book builds, as well as builds/option-loads that are just filler to keep the line moving. These units will be pushed through to dealers through their allocation of inventory. So your local dealer should also end up with some units that are generic allocation; which may not have a destined buyer.

I think the potentially annoying part for the reservation holder is that it is entirely possible for them to get an order into the order book, but then a different model appears at that dealership showroom first just because of the way GM has to handle logistics and deliveries. So it is entirely possible a non-reservation holder will get their Silverado EV before a reservation holder's custom order book submission.
