Looks like the article has been taken down, good thing you captured the information.

If these numbers are accurate, that is a massive battery! If range is calculated from highway, 261 kWh, but most likely is calculated from combined, so 242 kWh. I think I saw 245 kwh somewhere else, so that would make sense.

To put the numbers another way, that is 1.72 mi/kWh on the highway.
I think GMA has GM's attention since the Lyriq V article...

450 miles range is likely calculated as "combined." Since it is 450 miles range ... on a per 100 miles basis that is 4.5 * 53.9 kWh = a battery pack usable capacity of 198 kWh. A Hummer EV has a 212 kWh usable pack... so this seems in line with expectations.

That's what I did, check your math. Looks like you did 4.5 x 43.9 not 53.9.

Whooooops hah.
Does 1.724mi/kWh seem low for a ground up EV build? I was expecting much higher 2.2ish?

These trucks are still big and heavy, and aren't the most knife through air either.

GM also does their EPA testing with about 1000 lbs of payload and they are still being conservative.

1.7 mi/kWh is more like Hummer EV highway efficiency. There are Hummer owners averaging over 2 mi/kWh mixed driving.

I see this quoted everywhere, but never any firm evidence this is the case. Also payload has very little effect on range, I would think 1000 lbs might lower it by 3-4% at most.

1.7 mi/kWh is pretty low, pretty much on par with the Lightning, especially for what seems like a much more efficient package compared to a Lightning.

I routinely get 2.5 mi/kWh in my R1T, and can get 2.7-2.9 mi/kWh at highway speeds using conserve (2WD) mode. That is driving as normal, and not trying to be more efficient (typically flow of traffic or 5-7 mph over), suspension set at normal ride height. It is a smaller truck though, so I would expect it to get higher efficiency.

Here's the EPA certification document for the Hummer EV. Test weight is 10,000 lbs so with the 9130 lbs curb weight that is a 870 lbs payload.
APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION 2023 MODEL YEAR

For comparison, Rivian does their EPA certification practically empty - not even enough to account for a driver. 6949 lbs curb weight and 7000 lbs test weight.

A standard range lightning has a 98kwh battery and is rated for something like 230miles. I just thought the Silverado would blow that number out based on a ground up build. I thought it would be more aero and efficient.
got a email from gm
⁸ 2024 Silverado EV RST anticipated availability early 2024.
The order guide for the 2024 Hummer SUT is out. The ETI battery RPO is confirmed to be the 20 module pack. ETN is 24 module.

3WT comes standard with the 20 module pack so that won't be getting 450 miles of range.

3WT and 4WT Battery Capacities Confirmed - ETI = 20...

GM just made it official about the 450 mile range, now EPA certified.

That’s something! Let’s go, make it a one two.
Assuming the same 212 usable kWh pack as the Hummer, that’s over 2.1 miles/kWh:)

Also, both Hummer SUT and Lyriq owners are now seeing real-world ranges well over EPA ranges in mixed highway/city/secondary road trips. This bodes well for future Silverado owners’ range concerns. Too bad so many may decide to pass on this amazing e- truck because they are married to their phone apps.

fun thing the 24 Lyriq and 24 Silverado so far will keep phone projection.
