It's my impression from articles and the presentation that the 40k base model is upgradable to 400 mile range. Is this correct or am I mistaken? Speculation I have seen is the base would be somewhere around a 300 mile range.

That was my first impression as well. It seemed to be worded that way in the presentation. I participated in one of the interactive Chevy My Way Tours and asked the presenter if that was standard on WT or was that an optional longer range battery. He claimed it was standard, but I would take that with a grain of salt as he didn't have answers to a lot of other very basic questions.

I'm no battery expert, but wonder if by the animation of the battery system being modular it would be possible to have a base qty of batteries and be upgradeable in sections up to the max amount. It would seem that the only thing required might be software changes to make the battery pack a more upgradeable unit. In the current forms it seems like there is a standard and extended with nothing in between. It would be nice to have it more a la cart. There may well be more to it than I think though.

That would be the most likely way this goes. Which is still potentially a good deal if you want a basic truck with more range.

I tend to agree. The way Mary Barra worded this is a little vague, but to me it seems to imply that the $39,900 WT trim will have less range.

"We will launch a Work Truck model in spring of 2023, offering an expected GM estimated range of at least 400 miles on a full charge. Additional lower range Work Truck models will follow, giving customers a variety of choices with different ranges and price points to meet their needs, including a base model and a very competitive starting MSRP of USD 39,900 plus dealer freight."

I didn't catch that detail until after I paid $100 to join the reservation list. So that's a major bummer. The range and price combined is what made me have interest.

If the base WT still has 300 miles of minimum range, I'll probably stay the course and wait for my truck. But if we're talking 230-250 like the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, that's nowhere near as viable. Right now I'm filling my ICE truck one per week. Ideally I'd like to charge an EV truck once per week also.

Why only charge once a week? Just get in the habit of plugging it in when you get home. That is one of the benefits of having a BEV, always having a full "tank" to start the day.

Because most information out there suggests that doing that can significantly shorten the life of the battery pack. They say you should wait until at least 20% remaining to connect the charger to power.

You wanna keep it in the middle, not empty not full. Only fully charge before a long trip when you will use it immediately. 30-80% SOC is ideal for longevity, but of course fine to use it all if you need, just don’t leave it sitting empty or full.

The Bolt EV's have a charge limiting function to stop charging at a preset level, I'm sure the silverado will have a similar function. We leave ours turned on unless we are going on a road trip, and generally charge when the battery gets to 30-40%. That practice would be more frustrating with a battery that's 3x larger, so I will probably be charging the Silverado daily or every other day to keep the charge times lower.

From what I've read, it is more damaging to DCFC more than once a day.

Sorry, I should have clarified to not charge to 100% every day. We charge to 80% daily, and only 100% when we are going on a trip, but the benefit is having a full (80%) tank a day.
